Tiruchi Railway Division Inaugurated Integrated Power Supply (IPS) Facility at 20 Mid-Section LC Gates : The IPS facility ensures punctual and safe running of trains.


Shri. R. Baskaran, Principal Chief Signal and Telecommunication Engineer (PCSTE), Southern Railway inaugurated the Integrated Power Supply (IPS) system in Tiruchchirappalli Division on 12.11.2020 today. The Integrated Power Supply (IPS) system has been provided at 20 Nos. of Mid section Engineering Interlocked Level Crossing Gates.

The Integrated Power Supply (IPS) facility has been provided at 15 Interlocked Level Crossing Gates in Thanjavur-Mayiladuthurai section and 05 Nos. Interlocked Level Crossing Gates in Thanjavur-Thiruvarur section at a cost of Rs.3 Crs.

The Integrated Power Supply (IPS) system ensures continuous power supply to signals and prevents blanking of signals when the train is approaching. Under this system, IPS is provided with 4hrs battery backup and the signals work even if input power supply fails and ensures unnecessary detention to trains at LC gates during power failure.

The IPS facility ensures punctual and safe running of trains. In Tiruchchirappalli Division, all the 90 railway stations have been provided with the IPS facility. Similarly, out of 146 Mid section Engineering Interlocked Level Crossing Gates this facility has been provided at 91 Level Crossing (LC) gates. Work is under progress to provide the IPS facility at the remaining 55 interlocked LC Gates and will be completed in the financial year 2021-22.
