FROM CHINNA SALEM TO ELURU

The Business Development Unit of Salem Division of Southern Railway is always on the lookout to sustain and improve the commercial activities of the division.  Untiring efforts by the Business Development Unit of Salem Division get new streams of freight traffic.

Recently, Salem Division transported harvester machines from Chinna Salem to Nalgonda in Telangana, Surathkal in Karnataka and Eluru in Andhra Pradesh.  Moreover, mosquito nets were transported from Karur to Bhubaneswar and Khurda Road in Odisha.  And, in a novel initiative, boxes of toned milk, weighing 138 tonnes, were transported from Salem to Dimapur in Nagaland in a special parcel train, comprising general second class coaches.  For the first time in Southern Railway, general second class coaches were utilized to move parcels.

In continuation of such efforts, today (07.11.2020) Salem division is transporting harvester machines from Chinna Salem to Eluru in Andhra Pradesh.

81 harvester machines, loaded on 32 wagons, are being moved from Chinna Salem in Salem Division to Eluru in Andhra Pradesh.

This is the sixth train to leave from Chinna Salem carrying harvester machines.  Earlier, one freight train carried harvester machines to Nalgonda in Telangana, two freight trains carried harvester machines to Surathkal in Karnataka and two freight trains carried harvester machines to Eluru in Andhra Pradesh.

Transportation of harvester machines from Chinna Salem to Eluru will bring in revenue of Rs.10.40 lakhs.

This initiative will be very beneficial to farmers and give a fillip to agricultural activities.
