International day of Older persons observed

Since 1990 after the UN General Assembly voted to establish October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons, October 1st of every year is observed as the International Day of Older persons.

The day is observed by raising awareness about issues affecting the elderly. It is also a day to appreciate the contributions that older people make to society.

Southern Railway has the rich tradition of honouring and felicitating retired Railway employees for their valuable contributions. Every effort is made to spread awareness of their entitled benefits and privileges in Indian Railways.  In this connection, Southern Railway State Scouts and Guide Fellowship observed the day by explaining the benefits that the , elderly get under various schemes virtually on 1st of October 2020.  

National level and State level Leaders from Indian Scout & Guide Fellowship met virtually.  Shri.R.Baskaran, Principal Chief Signal and Telecommunication Engineer of Southern Railway & President of Southern Railway State Scout and Guide Fellowship gave guidelines for the elders especially during this COVID time.  Laws protecting Senior Citizens, List of NGOs and Privileges given in Indian Railways for pensioners was shared along witha book titled, “VETERANS-ITS FOR YOU”.   The compendium, published in Tamil, Hindi and English languages, enlists the privileges and entitled benefits of Railway pensioners.
