Mobile App launched for operating staff of Salem Division.


The Salem Division was contemplating to technologically connect all the 81 stations and 4 depots scattered at various points as Indian Railways is moving towards the implementation of e-office. This led to the genesis of a mobile application. The mobile app is created with the help of the students of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, Chennai. This app helps about 1800 staff of the Operating Department of Salem Division to be in touch with the Head Quarters always. The significant features of the Mobile app are;


1. Notification: Staffs will get instant notifications regarding important announcements related to the Operating Department.

 

2. Inbox: This feature helps to receive personal messages from the HQ in the inbox related to service matters.

 

3. Grievances: All employees can send their Personal and professional grievances to the officers by making use of this facility directly.

 

4. Leave Application: Staffs can apply for leave online. This facility can eliminate the delay in processing leave applications and brings transparency. This feature particularly helps employees working in distant places like Udhagamandalam, Tirupattur, etc.

 

5. Bio-data: Details of all employees are available under this feature.

 

6. Alert: This option helps to communicate the occurrence of any unusual incidents at workplace like accidents, attacks by strangers, etc. with location, instantly, to the HQ.

 

7. News: This facility makes all staff aware of important announcements, circulars, etc in detail.

 

8. Safety: Staffs can make use of this feature for reporting failures and accidents.

 

9. Quiz: This is an interesting feature. All staff can participate in an online monthly/weekly quiz programme to improve the working knowledge.

 

10. Users of this app are categorised into five levels. Each level can make use of specific features. For example, the level 2 accommodating Station Master and Station Superintendent can make use of features such as;

 

i) Store Requirements: Here, one can report requirement of the particular station to the HQ.

ii) Station Imprest: This feature helps to monitor and update the financial expenses.

iii) Staff Position: This facility shows daily-wise position of the employees whether they are on duty or attending RC, PME, Absent, Sick, etc.

iv) Goods Position: This feature helps to update the position of goods trains.

v) Inspection Position: It aims to monitor inspections conducted by authorities like Traffic Inspectors, Station Superintendent in charge, etc.

vi) Daily Roaster: This facility helps to set up and maintain roaster for each station.
