COMMISSIONING OF TRACTION SUB STATION AT THANJAVUR

Traction Substation was commissioned at Thanjavur railway station on 05.03.2020. The connection of 110kV power supply to Traction Substation at Thanjavur railway station will help extend power supply to Karaikal railway station for speedy ongoing electrification work between Tiruvarur and Karaikal. Railway Electrification works between Tiruvarur- Karaikal for 42 route kilometres is in rapid progress and is likely to be completed by March 2020.

At present, power is being supplied to Tiruvarur Traction Sub Station from Trichy Traction Sub Station.  As the distance is more, voltage at the farthest end is less which is hampering smooth working of Railway Electrification works. The Traction Substation at Thanjavur Railway Station was commissioned at a total cost of Rs.20/- crores paid to Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) for incoming power supply arrangement through Under Ground cables.
