General Manager, Southern Railway Inaugurates NIC e-office in

5 divisions of Southern Railway

 

The Zonal Headquarters at Chennai and all 6 Divisions of Southern Railway, viz., Chennai, Salem, Tiruchchirappalli, Madurai, Palakkad  and Thiruvananthapuram Divisions will now have Paperless work culture

 

Shri John Thomas, GM/Southern Railway, inaugurated the e-office system at 5 divisions of Southern Railway, viz., Chennai, Madurai, Salem, Palakkad, and Thiruvananthapuram  today (18.3.2020).  RailTel has been instrumental in the successful  and early implementation of e –office over Southern Railways. At Southern Railway Headquarters and Tiruchchirappalli Division e-Office has been already implemented during July 2029.

 

7882 users working across all the establishments of SR have been registered in e-Office and trained to handle the platform. With this, the entire Railway Zone is switching over completely to paperless work culture with NIC e-office Suite.

 

Project e-Office is implemented by Railtel Corpn under MoU with Indian Railways. Southern Railway is the fourth Railway zone (after South Central Railway, South Western Railway and Western Railway)  to implement e-Office in the zonal HQ and all Divisions.

The aim of e-Office  is to provide reliable, efficient, and effective way to handle office files & documents.E-Office ensures absolute transparency and an effective monitoring mechanism to check the movement of files. In addition to Quick disposal of files and systematic, timely monitoring of pending files e-Office also fosters paper-less culture which will not only save operational cost but also reduce the carbon foot print.

 

With this Southern Railway is aiming to change the work culture for providing better services to public. 

 

At this juncture, when the emphasis is on social distancing in the wake of COVID 19, and the issuance of DOPT guidelines to avoid file movements as a precaution, the implementation of e office has been welcomed by all officers and staff.
