71th Republic Day Celebrated at Salem Division - Achievement & Performance of Salem Division

Shri U. Subba Rao Divisional Railway Manager unfurled the National Flag on occasion of 71th Republic Day.
During his address he welcomed all the Students, Public, Press Correspondents, Retired and Employees of Salem Division For 71th Republic Day celebrations. Salem DRM was happy to share that Indian Railways has recorded zero passenger deaths in 2019, making 2019 as the safest year in Indian Railway’s history. This historical milestone could be achieved with the sincere and dedicated hard work of Railway employees, for which, he Congratulated each Railway employee of Southern Railway.

Later DRM shared the important achievements made by Salem Division.

Performance of  Salem Division Commercial during the financial year 18-19 (Apr-Dec)
  • Salem Division  gross earnings stood at ₹655.87 crores which is 25% higher than the last year earnings (Rs. 526.42 Crore). Passenger earnings increased by 4.61 % and freight earnings increased by 166.64 % 
  • Division have loaded 2.03 MTs of different types of commodities to various destinations across the country surpassing our target of 1.45 MTs.

Other Achievements/ initiatives taken by Salem division
  • Special train was operated for 3 days between Salem and Chinna salem on teh eve of St.Anthoniyar Church annual festival
  • Coimbatore to Mettupalaiyam train services have been introduced on Sundays also.
  • One special train was started between Coimbatore and Asansol and between Coimbatore and Santragachi.
  • On 24.01.20, A new AC express service has started between Coimbatore and Chennai.
  • Five Trains have augmented with additional coaches permanently.
  • 28 Coaches were temporarily augmented on various trans on Sundays and other festivals to clear extra rush.
  • 3 new sewa services were introduced during the year. Coimbatore to Palani, Coimbatore to Pollachi and Salem to Karur.
Salem Division is also taking a number of steps to provide more and better passenger amenities.
  • Disabled friendly Braille boards have been provided in Coimbatore station which has been greatly appreicated by Prime minister’s office. Similar boards are now being providing at Salem, Karur and Erode.
  • Batery car services is provided at Erode, Salem and Coimbatore and It will also be started in Karur shortly.
  • Phase one redevelopment of Salem station has been greatly appreciated by one and all. As part of the second phase, Platform No. 5 of Salem station will be provided with escalator, lift and improved cover over platform by end of this financial year.
  • Raising of platforms, Provision of FOBs have been taken up at a number of locations in our Division
  • Wi-Fi is now available at all 72 stations of Salem Division
  • CCTV Surveillance os already available at Coimbatore and Mettupalayam. Work is in an advanced stage for providing such cameras at Karur, Erode and Salem.
On Safety Front also Salem division has been in the yu fore front
  • 18 manned gates have been eliminated this year
  • 44 bridges have been rehabilitated so far this year
  • Electronic interlocking has been provided in two stations
  • 12 gates have been interlocked with adjacent station for safe movement of trains
  • High availability axle counters have been provided in 20 locations so far this year. This will greatly reduce signal failures and improve punctuality of trains
  • For self defence of lady employee, Pepper Spray has been distributed among the staff.
The  Railway protection force has providing excellent service to the Railway passengers to make their journey safe and hassle free
  • All the important Mail and express trains are being provided with escorts during the night journey
  • 109 criminals who have committed crimes against Railway passengers have been apprehended and valuables worth Rs. 5.40 lakhs have been recovered so far. Similarly 48 criminals for stealing Railway property have also been arrested and Railway property worth Rs. 2,64,074 has been recovered.
  • 5195 persons have been prosecuted under various provisions of Railways acts and fine amount of Rs. 8.29 lakhs realised
  • In a major anti touts drive, 55 unauthorised travel agets have been arrested and Railway tickets work 22.64 lakhs were seized.
  • Spot penalties for littering in Railway premises have been imposed on 6237 people and fine amount of Rs. 15.98 lakhs realized.
  • Contrabad goods valued Rs. 16.31 have been recovered so far.
  • 102 Left over baggage have been handed over back to the concerned passengers
  • 393 run away children have been rescued and rehabilitated
  • 93 bonafide passenger have been provided with medical assistance by the RPF.
  • And finally
Salem Division has done well in Sports area as well. At the All India Athletic meet held at Pune, & bagged two medals.
  • Shri Kamalraj Commercial clerk of Coimbatore has won Silver medal in triple jump  and 400 mtrs
  • Ms. Sivaanbarasi Commercial clerk of Coimbatore won Silver medal in Triple jump.
Salem Division bagged two prestigious National energy conservative award conducted by BEE for Schools category buildings, Erode School was awarded the 1st prize and Podanur school was given the certificate of merit.
