71st REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATIONS OF TIRUCHCHIRAPPALLI DIVISION




On the occasion of 71st Republic Day Celebrations, Shri Ajaiy Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchchirappalli unfurled the National Flag today (26.01.2020) and accepted the Guard of Honour given by the Railway Protection Force at Kallukuzhi Railway Ground, Tiruchchirappalli. He then inspected the Railway Protection Force parade contingent. The function was attended by senior railway officers, staff of Tiruchchirappalli division, their families and public.

During his address, Shri Ajaiy Kumar, Divisional Railway Manager read out the message of General Manager, Southern Railway and also highlighted the achievements of Tiruchchirappalli Division in the current financial year till December 2019.

The Highlights of the Tiruchchirappalli Division in the Current Financial Year upto December 2019
  • In Passenger and Freight earnings (upto the December 2019)
  • Our  gross earnings stood at ₹ 776.25  crores which is 13.85% higher than the last year earnings and originating Freight earnings is ₹435.69  crores which is 15.66 % higher than previous year     earnings of 376.71     Crores. 
  • We have loaded 8.134MTs of different types of commodities to various destinations across the country registering an improvement of 13% over     last year. We will be achieving our target of 12.50 MT for the current financial     year.
  • The cumulative passenger earnings stood at Rs.278.17 Crores which is 9.34 % increase than previous year’s earnings of Rs.254.40 Crores. 
  • Carried 31.5 Million Passengers which is 0.32% higher than by previous     year of 31.4 Million passengers.
  • Tiruchchirappalli Division achieved 89.98 % in punctuality in the current     year which     is 5.37% higher than the corresponding period of last year.
  • For Passenger Amenities and Infrastructure Improvements
  • 75 km length broad gauge line between Tiruvarur and Patukkottai has been commissioned. 
  • The redevelopment work of Tiruchchirappalli station is in final stages. The works in the circulating area have been completed and buses were allowed to drop and pickup of passengers at the Additional entry at the Tiruchchirappalli Junction. The work was taken up in two phases at a cost of Rs.23 crores.
  • The New Foot Over bridge (FOB) connecting all the platforms at Tiruchchirappalli Junction has been opened for passengers to reduce congestion in the subway during peak hours.  
  • The renovated / refurbished retiring rooms at Tiruchchirappalli Junction have been opened for passengers with improved amenities.
  • The erstwhile Passenger Reservation Centre (PRS) was refurbished and converted into an integrated Reservation–cum-Booking office at Tiruchchirappalli Junction railway station. 
  • New Retiring Rooms constructed at Tirupaddirpuliyur and 2nd class waiting hall at Vridhachalam railway station was renovated for the use of passengers. 
  • Two Fast food units each one at Thanjavur (TJ) and Chidambaram (CDM) railway stations opened for the benefit of passengers.
  • New location for Combined Parking Stand at Panruti railway station provided.
  • Subways have been commissioned at 9 locations and eliminated 9 manned LC gates.
  • All the 103 stations of Tiruchchirappalli Division provided with Wi-Fi facility. This will greatly benefit for the passengers and local public
  • 100% LED lights in stations, service buildings and Railway Quarters has been achieved.  
  • Additional 27 new catering stalls started functioning in various stations in Trichy Division.
  • 8 Express rakes out of 13 rakes primarily maintained in the division have been converted with Uthkrisht standard coaches.
  • First division in Southern Railway to complete Bio toilets fitment in all the coaches including all kinds of departmental stocks and complete fitment of natural ventilation system in all bio toilet fitted trains.
  • For passenger awareness about UTS on Mobile APP, Video display units were installed at concourse area of booking office/TPJ to show films on the advantages of UTS APP, thereby increasing the sale of UTS on Mobile tickets at TPJ station by 13.4 % and revenue thro’ Mobile tickets by     15.5 % on.
  • Tiruchchirappalli Division is the second division in Indian Railways and First Division in Southern Railway to implement E-office. E-Office has been implemented in the Division from the month of June 2019. 
  • Speed of Thanjavur – Goldenrock down line has been increased from 95 kmph to 110 kmph during December 2019.
  • Online Grievance Portal has been created for employees benefit for booking of holiday homes, latest office orders, seniority, question bank, notification and procedure orders. Etc. 
  • Additional stoppage provided at Thiruvannamalai for T.No.12867 Howrah – Puducherry- Howrah Exp.  
  • Rs.12.39 lakhs realized as unreserved passenger earnings by Running special trains at Thiruvannamalai during the Annual Karthikai deepam  festival
  • CCTV based Rolling in Examination of trains has been introduced at Tiruchchirappalli Junction. 



Works in progress and works to be taken up in the next one year:
  • 37 km length broad gauge line work between Tiruturaipundi-Agastiyampalli is in progress 
  • 114 km Railway Electrification works between Cuddalore Port – Mayiladuturai & Mayiladuturai - Thiruvarur sections are in progress and is likely to be completed by March 2020.
  • 103 km Railway Electrification works between Thanjavur – Nagappattinam – Karaikal section is in progress  and likely to be completed by March 2020.
  • Work for additional Escalator facility connecting the Foot Over Bridge at the Additional entry is in progress at Tiruchchirappalli Junction.
  • Foot over Bridge (FOB) works at 19 various stations in this Division are in progress and will be completed by 2020-21.
  • Additional Platform work at Tiruchchirappalli Junction is in progress and nearing completion. Constructions of new booking office at the Additional entry and Second entry at Tiruchchirappalli Junction will be taken up.
  • Extension of Platform works at Srirangam, Ariyalur, Cuddallore Port Junction, Mayiladuthurai, Vridhachallam, Tirucchirappalli Fort, Ayanapuram, Tiruverumbur, Uttangalmangalam, Vadalur, Neyveli & Kurinjipadi will be carried out at a cost of Rs.4 crores.
  • Reconstruction of station building at Nagappattinam will be taken up at a  cost  of Rs.3 crores.
  • Construction of boundary walls at various locations in our Division will be carried out at a cost of Rs.10 crores.
  • Provision of Platform shelters at Tiruvarur, Karaikal & Papanasam will be taken up at a cost of Rs.2.5 crores.
  • Rising of Platform 2 & 3 works at Tiruvarur station will be taken up in the coming days.

The Railway employees were also thanked for their efforts in all achievements of   Railway. They have been implored to re-dedicate themselves for betterment of the Division and system in the coming days.
