Tiruchchirappalli Division, Southern Railways gets ISO 14001 certification for all Major six Stations (Tiruchchirappalli Jn, Villupuram Jn, Kumbakonam, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur Jn and Puducherry) obtained the EMS (Environment Management Sysstem) ISO:14001 Certification for the Stations identified by Railway Board for implementation of the Hon’ble NGT’s directives.

Hon’ble National Green Tribunal have issued actionable directions for implementation of various guidelines to be followed by the Zonal Railways, in order to meet the commitment given by Ministry of Railways in a case No. OA 141/2014, in the matter of Saloni Singh & Others Vs. Union of India. Based on these directives, Railway Board had issued detailed directions for Zonal Railways consisting of 24 steps for implementation by the Zonal Railways Hon’ble NGT had directed 36 stations over Indian Railways for implementation in the first phase. Chennai Central, Trivandrum Central and Tiruchirappalli Junction have been identified out of these 36 stations for implementation in the first phase.

In the second phase, Hon’ble NGT has directed 720 Stations all over the Indian Railways for implementation in the second phase. All the A1 and A category stations of Zonal Railways have been identified for implementation in the second phase. Tiruchchirappalli Junction station is already certified for integrated management system ISO:14001. After the preliminary assessment audit and final audit, M/s. Quest Certification Private Limited have certified all the five stations viz., Villupuram Jn, Kumbakonam, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur Jn and Puducherry for ISO:14001:2015 Environmental Management System.
